The region between the towns of Klatovy and Prachatice offers a lot: beautiful landscape, dense forests, rivulets and rivers, lovely villages, historical towns and three castles, too. One of them, that surprises you nicely, is called Velhartice.
The Velhartice Castle was founded by the lords of Velhartice at the turn of the 13th and 14th century. In the 17th century, the Gothic castle core with an unique stone bridge was enlarged by the late Renaissance palace. Although this castle went trough hard moments, nowadays, it thrives and is one of the most popular sight in the Pilsen Region.
If you decide to visit this castle, you will not regret it. The castle offers two guided tours (Gothic Castle and Renaissance Palace), alternatively you can walk around its courtyards and play some of the outdoor games or you can take a look at buildings of the popular architecture (an open-air folk museum) beside the castle.
